What is Dissolved Oxygen (DO)?

Dissolved Oxygen (DO) is a relative measure of the amount of oxygen that is dissolved or carried in a given medium.  It is a key indicator in the health of lakes, ponds and impounded rivers. The presence of oxygen in water is a positive sign, while diminsihed levels of oxygen are often a sign of pollution.
