The HI84529-55 is a 230 mL pump calibration standard designed for use with the HI84529 Mini Titrator when measuring acidity in dairy products across both low and high ranges. The number of calibrations required will depend on the range selected for testing.
Acidity in dairy is determined through a neutralisation reaction, where naturally occurring acids are neutralised by a base. In the United States, results are typically reported as a percentage of lactic acid (% l.a.), while other units such as °SH, °D and °Th may also be used.
Using the HI84529 Mini Titrator simplifies titratable acidity testing, combining straightforward sample preparation with an accurate dosing pump, a potentiometric endpoint detection system and automatic result calculations. Since the titrant is pre-standardised, it’s essential to calibrate the dosing pump to confirm the exact volume being delivered. This is done by titrating a known volume of calibration solution to a fixed pH endpoint, measured using the FC260B pH electrode and HI5315 reference electrode.
The HI84529-55 calibration solution is suitable for both low and high range measurements, with the volume used depending on the selected range. Typically, 1 mL is used for the Low Range 20, 2 mL for the Low Range 50, and 10 mL for the High Range 20.
For best results, a pump calibration should be carried out whenever key components such as the titrant, syringe, tubing or pH electrode are replaced. Regular calibration before starting a new series of tests is also recommended to maintain accuracy and consistency.
Replacement reagents required to operate the HI84532 include:
